Haafiz Shahimi’s Confused Sexuality indicates an evolution from his earlier ButterFish works, whereby now the “male” and “female” butterflies merge and overlap against a neutral background of jute. If observed from up close, the viewer will be able to detect faint silhouettes of hills and mountains, diffused within the shadowy edges of the butterflies’ wings and pyrography prints. Rendered in a clean, minimal style, the artwork is refreshingly different from Haafiz’s other work.
